WV HOBY Alumni Newsletter
Issue  No. 6 March 1st, 2008
Nifty Link!

Hey HOBYs! This issue I thought I would share with you a simple way to make a small difference in the world. FreeRice is a website that helps fight hunger by donating rice everytime you play their game. Simply guess which word from a list matches the given word, and they donate rice to the UN World Food Program.

 Give it a Try!

 Alumni Spotlight

"Since I have been involved with HOBY for 23 years, I have
lots of memories of the friends I have made over the years and the events we
have attended. One of the most vivid memories is when Mike Browning and I
picked Hugh up from the airport on his first visit to WV. We toured Hobet
mining, and then the WV organization held a reception at the Governor's
mansion honoring Hugh and our sponsors. The best part of Hugh's visit was
when he traveled to UC to meet with the ambassadors later that evening. I
remember him sitting in the middle of all of them and talking. He held
their attention, and it was amazing to see the respect he commanded."

Tammy Kesner!

The March Alumni Spotlight shines on a very important volunteer in WV HOBY.  Tammy Kesner has been with HOBY since ’85 when she represented Petersburg   High School . She is now an Accountant for Martin’s Electric and Contracting while running her own catering business, Gourmet Delights, in Petersburg . Tammy’s favorite aspect of her business is creating ice sculptures and displays from fruit and vegetables. In community service, she has been Chair of Spring Mountain Festival Committee for several years, and is the Current President of Grant County Chamber of Commerce as well as on the Board of Directors for Grant County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

As for HOBY, Tammy is our Current Treasurer on the Corporate Board, has been an LSC in 1999 and 2000, and was HOBY National District Director for 2 years. She has received the Mary Shahan Award, the John Newbrough Alumni Award, and the Outstanding Seminar Site for 2 years.

The Alumni Board would like to extend their gratitude to Tammy for all the wonderful work she has done on behalf of the WV Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Organization. Volunteers like her are what make the program possible each year. In her own words, Tammy describes it best…

“The people are what make the organization. The WV organization is awesome
because of each of us. We make the legacy and it will continue to grow and
thrive because our hearts are in the right place. Our lives have been
touched by those before us, and we will return that with all the ambassadors
that follow us. Let's keep the HOBY spirit alive.”

Thank you Tammy, for always having your heart in the right place.
